How to Set Up a New Qhub in Just 3 Minutes

T

Running 4 years on this one, and my list of tags is still mostly spammed tags from questions that I've deleted. If I delete the question, the tag has got to go away too - its crazy that I have to go find each tag individually and remove them even though the question no longer exists?! help.qhub.com/75463/re-keeping-tags-for-deleted-posts-this-s

Hi T,

Ok, we've looked into this more deeply now, and here is what we've found.

Say, for example, someone posts a spammy question that uses the non-spammy tag "restaurant", which happens to be a tag used my many other valid questions in your Qhub. If you were to delete that spammy question AND it's underlying tag "restaurant", then other questions with that tag would lose the tag. So all those valid questions using the tag "restaurant" will become taggless and will no longer appear in a tag search for the term "restaurant", or even in a regular keyword search unless that word appears in the body of the question.

So the short answer is yes, with a bit of fancy coding we could indeed have tags deleted automatically along with their parent questions. But that would mean an overall unfavourable result, as described above.

Of equal importance is the fact that if we did this for your Qhub, T, it would also be for all 7000 or so hubs, whether those hubs' owners liked it or not. So I'm afraid we can't implement this for you.

The solution is, of course, to click on the Tags link in the footer of your hub and just delete any unwanted tags from there. It only takes 2 click to do so, so I hope that's not too much to ask. If you have a lot of tags on that page, you can just hit CTRL + F on your (Windows) keyboard to run a search for the name of any tag.

Please let me know if this all makes sense.
